Group hikes in Catalonia

Find people who walk at your pace on trails and paths, with the route, the elevation gain and the level clear from the start. There is 1 upcoming outing, for an unhurried stroll or a long day out.
What to expect from a group hike
A group hike is a walk along paths and trails at a pace that suits the group. Each plan sets the meeting point, the time, the distance, the elevation gain and the level, so you know what awaits you before you sign up. In Catalonia many paths are waymarked with paint: GR (long-distance) marks are white and red, and PR (short-distance) marks are white and yellow. A marked route helps you stay on track, but it does not replace a map or a track on a phone with enough battery.
When and where to walk
Each area has its best season. On the coast and in low-lying areas the heat bears down in summer and walking is better from autumn to spring; if you go out in summer, do it first thing. In the mountains, snow and ice can affect the route in winter, and the summer months are the safest for high ground. Before setting off, check the forecast and make sure the route is still passable.
Levels, gear and daylight
Look at the plan's level (easy, moderate, hard or expert) and also at the distance, the ascent and the estimated duration. Bring well-broken-in footwear with good grip, enough water, food, a warm layer, a waterproof layer and sun protection. In winter it gets dark early: plan to be back in daylight and, if in doubt, bring a headlamp.
Getting there and carpooling
Many starting points are in villages or car parks that public transport does not reach at the time you need to start. That is why many plans arrange carpooling from a nearby city. The plan gives the meeting point and the time before you ask for a spot, and you can agree with the driver how to share the costs.

Frequently asked questions
What should I bring on a day hike?
Footwear with a good sole, water, food, a warm layer, a waterproof and sun protection. Confirm with the organiser what to bring before setting off: they may ask for something more depending on the route and the season.
Which level should I choose if I am starting out?
Start with an easy plan and look at the distance and the elevation gain, not just the name of the place. Confirm with the organiser that the route suits your level and pace before requesting a spot.
What do the GR and PR marks mean?
They are the paint marks of waymarked trails: GR (long-distance) is white and red, and PR (short-distance) is white and yellow. They help you find your way, but it is wise to carry a map or a track as well.
What happens if the weather changes?
If the forecast is bad, the organiser may postpone or cancel the plan. Check the plan page and the chat, if there is one, before setting off, and do not carry on if the weather turns halfway through.
How do I join, and is there carpooling?
Open the plan, check the date, meeting point and level, and request your spot; the organiser confirms it. If the plan offers carpooling, you will see it on its page, with the departure point and time.
