Hiking and group outings in Catalonia

Find people who walk at your pace to explore mountains, coastal paths and forests. There are 5 upcoming outings, from easy walks to high-mountain ascents.
What to see in Catalonia
Catalonia brings together very different landscapes only a few hours' travel from one another: it includes the Pyrenees with their lakes and peaks, the Pre-Pyrenees ranges such as the Pedraforca, the Montserrat massif, the Montseny, the coastal paths of the Costa Brava and the Ebro Delta. Almost every outing combines a clear goal — a summit, a pass, a cove — with a shared meal at the end.
Best time to go
Spring and autumn are the most comfortable months for walking across most of the territory, and many people favour autumn and its deciduous forests. In summer it is best to set off early or head up to the high mountains, where from June to October the trails are usually free of snow. From December to March there are snowshoe outings in the Pyrenees, while the coast and the lower ranges remain walkable.
Difficulty levels
Every outing states its level: easy for walks of up to 10 km with little elevation gain, moderate and hard for long days with steep sections, and expert for peaks above 3,000 metres or passages where you need your hands. If in doubt, start with an easy or moderate outing: the organiser explains the planned pace and what to bring.
Getting there
From Barcelona you can reach Montserrat, the Montseny or the Costa Brava in a day, and the Pyrenees in about two to three hours by car. Outside the big cities public transport is limited, so many outings arrange carpooling from Barcelona, Lleida, Girona or Tarragona; the plan says so before you sign up.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best time of year to hike in Catalonia?
It depends on the area. Spring and autumn are comfortable almost everywhere. For the high mountains, June to October has less snow. From December to March there are snowshoe outings in the Pyrenees; in that case, check the level and the equipment each plan asks for.
Do I need experience to join an outing?
Not always. Every plan states its level (easy, moderate, hard or expert) and what is expected of you. Easy outings are designed for beginners, and the organiser usually answers questions before confirming your spot.
How does joining an outing work?
Open the plan, check the date, meeting point and level, and request your spot. The organiser confirms it and you will get the details. If there is a chat, you can coordinate with the group before setting off.
How much does it cost to join?
It depends on the plan. Many outings are free; others include shared costs such as a mountain hut or transport, and the price is shown on the card and on the plan page before you sign up.
Can I follow the area and organise my own outing?
Yes. You can follow Catalonia to get a notification when a new plan is published, and create your own outing in this area whenever you like. You need an account for both.
