Hiking and group outings in the Catalan Pyrenees

Find people who walk at your pace to explore lakes, mountain passes and peaks. There is 1 upcoming outing, from easy walks to high-mountain ascents.
What to see in the Catalan Pyrenees
From the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park to the Cerdanya, the Catalan Pyrenees bring together more than two hundred glacial lakes, high-mountain valleys and stone villages where the trails begin. The classics are the Vall de Boí and its Romanesque churches, the massif of the Pedraforca and the sanctuary of Núria. Almost every outing combines a clear goal — a lake, a pass, a summit — with a shared meal at the end.
Best time to go
From June to October the high-mountain trails are free of snow and the mountain huts are open. Autumn brings the colours of the beech forests and fewer people on the paths. From December to March the area changes its face: snowshoeing and ski touring, always mindful of avalanche risk and with the right equipment.
Difficulty levels
Every outing states its level: easy for walks of up to 10 km with little elevation gain, moderate and hard for long days with steep sections, and expert for peaks above 3,000 metres or passages where you need your hands. If in doubt, start with an easy or moderate outing: the organiser explains the planned pace and what to bring.
Getting there
Most access points are between two and three hours by car from Barcelona or Lleida. The valleys have little public transport, so many outings arrange carpooling from Barcelona, Lleida or Girona; the plan says so before you sign up.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best time of year to hike in the Catalan Pyrenees?
For the high mountains, June to October: there is less snow and the huts are open. In autumn the beech forests turn colour and the trails are quieter. From December to March there are snowshoe outings; in that case, check the level and the equipment each plan asks for.
Do I need experience to join an outing?
Not always. Every plan states its level (easy, moderate, hard or expert) and what is expected of you. Easy outings are designed for beginners, and the organiser usually answers questions before confirming your spot.
How does joining an outing work?
Open the plan, check the date, meeting point and level, and request your spot. The organiser confirms it and you will get the details. If there is a chat, you can coordinate with the group before setting off.
How much does it cost to join?
It depends on the plan. Many outings are free; others include shared costs such as a mountain hut or transport, and the price is shown on the card and on the plan page before you sign up.
Can I follow the area and organise my own outing?
Yes. You can follow the Catalan Pyrenees to get a notification when a new plan is published, and create your own outing in this area whenever you like. You need an account for both.
